10 Golden Rules of Giving Feedback
• Give feedback on observed behaviour, not on perceived attitudes
• Describe what you saw and felt, don’t make judgements
• Focus on behaviour that can be changed
• Select and stick to the most important issues
• Ask questions rather than make statements
• Set the ground rules in advance
• Comment on positive issues too, not just negative
• Observe everyone’s personal limits
• Stick to the specific behaviour, don’t waffle vaguely
• Before offering feedback, consider its value to the receiver
